JennAir Oven & Range Burner Not Igniting

A cooktop burner clicks or stays silent but the flame will not light.
What is going on.
When a gas cooktop burner will not light, the cause is usually a dirty or wet burner cap, a worn spark igniter, or a fault in the spark module that fires all the burners. A burner that clicks but never lights and one that does nothing at all point to different parts. Because gas is involved, the supply and the burner should be confirmed clear before any electrical part is replaced.
Most common causes.

Dirty or wet burner cap and igniter
Food spills, grease, or water on the burner cap or the small ceramic igniter block the spark or the gas ports, so the burner clicks but will not light.

Misaligned burner cap
If the burner cap is not seated flat in its correct position, the spark gap is wrong and the flame will not catch or carry around the ring.

Worn spark igniter electrode
The spark electrode at each burner wears out over time. A failed electrode produces no spark at that burner even though the others still light.

Failed spark module
One spark module fires every burner. When it fails, several burners stop sparking at once or one burner clicks nonstop even after it lights.

Clogged burner ports
The small holes around the burner ring can clog with debris, so gas reaches only part of the ring and the flame is uneven or will not light.

Confirm the gas supply is on and that other burners light, which rules out a whole-house gas issue.

Turn the burner off, let the parts cool, then lift the burner cap and grate to clean off spills and grease.

Dry the burner cap and the ceramic igniter fully, since moisture is a common reason a burner clicks but will not light.

Reseat the burner cap flat and square in its correct position and try the burner again.

Clear the small burner ports with a straightened paperclip or a pin, never a wooden toothpick that can break off.

Listen as you turn the knob: a steady click means the igniter sparks, while silence points to an electrical fault.

- A clicking burner means the igniter is sparking but the flame is not catching, usually because the burner cap is wet, dirty, or out of position, or because the gas ports are clogged.
- Why do all my burners click at once?
- The burners share one spark module. When several burners click together, or one clicks nonstop, the spark module or its switch is usually the part at fault.
- What should I do if I smell gas near the range?
- Turn off the burner, do not use any switch or flame, open windows to ventilate, and have it checked right away. A gas odor that does not clear means leaving the area and calling for help.
