LG Washer Won't Spin

The washer fills and agitates but the drum will not spin, so clothes come out heavy and dripping wet.
What is going on.
A washer that will not spin leaves the load soaked because the drum never reaches the speed that wrings out water. The cause can be as simple as an unbalanced load that tripped the machine, or as involved as a worn drive belt or a failed motor coupler. Top-load and front-load machines share several of these parts. A few homeowner checks will rule out the easy causes before a technician looks at the drive system.
Most common causes.

Unbalanced or overloaded drum
A load bunched on one side or packed too full trips the off-balance sensor, and the washer cuts the spin to protect itself.

Faulty lid switch or door lock
The machine will not spin until the lid switch or door lock confirms it is closed. A worn switch or a broken lock strike stops the spin step.

Worn or broken drive belt
The belt that turns the drum stretches, slips, or snaps with age. When it fails, the motor runs but the drum does not move.

Failed motor coupler (top-load)
On many top-load washers a plastic and rubber coupler links the motor to the transmission. It wears out and breaks, so the motor runs without driving the tub.

Failed drive motor or control board
A worn motor or a failed control board can stop the spin entirely. The machine may fill and agitate but never reach spin speed.

Open the lid, redistribute the load evenly around the drum, close it, and restart the spin cycle.

Remove a few items if the drum is packed tight, since an overloaded tub will not spin.

Run a spin-only cycle on an empty machine and listen for the motor and look for any drum movement.

Check that the lid or door closes fully and the latch clicks, since a misaligned lid blocks the spin step.

Confirm the washer sits level on all four feet, because a rocking machine triggers the off-balance cutoff.

Power the washer off for one minute, then restart it to clear a control glitch.
LG washing machine won't spin.
LG washers use an Inverter Direct Drive motor bolted straight to the tub with no belt, and the line covers front-load models, top-load models, and the stacked WashTower unit. Because the drive is direct, a belt is not in the picture, but a noisy or rough spin can mean worn tub bearings or a failing rotor-position sensor, and many faults surface as an LE, OE, UE, or similar code on the panel. Front-load and WashTower units also see door-interlock failures, drain-pump clogs, and door-boot leaks, while the sealed direct-drive design means bearing work is a deeper job than a simple belt swap.
