Dishwasher Repair in Orange County: Drains, Leaks, Cleaning

Most dishwashers don’t die. They get neglected. The filter never gets cleaned, the spray arms get clogged with bits of label and seed, the door seal slowly hardens, and one day the whole thing runs a cycle and leaves the dishes dirtier than when they went in. That’s when dishwasher repair starts paying for itself.

Won’t drain

If you open the door at the end of a cycle to standing water, the culprit is one of:

• The drain pump impeller is jammed or seized
• The check valve in the sump is stuck closed
• The garbage disposal knockout plug was never removed during install (we see this all the time on new homes)
• A kinked drain hose under the sink
• Food debris built up in the air gap on the counter

We pull the lower spray arm and filter, vacuum the sump, and spin the pump impeller by hand. If it spins free but won’t pump, the motor is shot. That is a 45-minute swap on most brands.

Not cleaning well

Almost always the spray arms or the wash motor. Check the holes on the upper and lower arms for clogs (toothpick test). Hard water mineral buildup on the heating element and spray arms is a big deal in OC, and we see it constantly. Running a citric acid clean cycle monthly extends the machine’s life by years.

Leaks

• Door gasket worn or pinched
• Door latch out of adjustment
• Pump seal failed (water under the unit during a cycle)
• Soap dispenser solenoid stuck open and overdosing
• Tub crack on older plastic-tub units (replace, don’t repair)
