Sub-Zero Freezer Error Code EC15
Last updated:
Refrigerant leak detected in the sealed system.
What EC15 means.
EC15 is the code Sub-Zero uses when the controller infers that refrigerant has leaked out of the sealed system. On a freezer column this usually shows because the compressor is running continuously without the suction line getting cold or the evaporator reaching its target. This is a serious code. The sealed system contains refrigerant under pressure and is brazed shut at the factory. It cannot be opened, recharged, or repaired without a full leak-down test by a licensed technician.
Most common causes.
-
Pinhole leak at an evaporator joint (corrosion from kitchen humidity).
-
Compressor process tube fatigue crack.
-
Condenser coil punctured during a previous service.
-
Filter-drier saturated (often paired with a leak elsewhere).
Do not attempt this one yourself.
Error code EC15 on a Sub-Zero freezer points to a sealed-system or high-voltage fault. The work involves refrigerant under pressure or a live high-voltage circuit, plus the specialized vacuum and recovery tools needed to handle it safely. Attempting it yourself can release refrigerant, damage the compressor permanently, or cause electrical injury. This is not a safe DIY repair.

Ivan is the only repairman I would ever trust with our appliances! We have used him 3 times (for our dryer, our dishwasher, and most recently our oven). We called him when our oven unexpectedly stopped working and he got us scheduled right away and had it fixed immediately! He is prompt, incredibly knowledgable, very friendly, reasonably priced, and honest! Look no further if you have any appliance repair needs! Thank you again Ivan!! - Kate

Our ice maker in our GE Profile refrigerator stopped working. We contacted several vendors through Yelp and Esquire was quick to respond and were able to come out the next day. Our ice maker was back up and running right away! They were able to buy the proper part and install it all in one day. They were courteous and reasonably priced. I couldn't be more pleased with how it went.
