Generic Error Condition. The control board has logged a fault and lit the Service indicator.
What EC (Service Flashing) means.
EC stands for "Error Condition" on a Sub-Zero unit. It is not a single fault. It is the umbrella alert that tells you the control board has recorded one or more numbered service codes (EC05, EC20, EC40, EC50, etc.) and is asking for service. On Classic and Designer series the Service icon flashes; on PRO 48 and newer integrated columns the panel cycles through the specific EC numbers. The actual repair is dictated by the numbered code behind it, which a technician reads from the service-mode display.
Most common causes.

A thermistor (temperature sensor) is reading out of range.

The defrost cycle did not complete normally.

A compressor is running longer than the firmware expects.

The control board is logging a communication or relay fault.
Try this first: safe DIY troubleshooting.

Note exactly what the Service light is doing. Solid, slow blink, and fast blink each map to different EC families.

Vacuum the condenser coils at the front grille. A clogged grille triggers long-run and overheat codes.

Check that the inlet and outlet vents at the toe-kick are not blocked by drawers, baskets, or wall returns.

Try a 5-minute power-down at the breaker (not just the unit switch) to reset the controller.

If Service returns within 24 hours, schedule a diagnostic. The EC number history is only readable in service mode.
