Evaporator defrost sensor fault. The controller cannot manage the defrost cycle.
What Ed means.
Ed (sometimes "ED" on older Viking displays) flags a problem with the defrost-cycle thermistor, the small sensor clipped to the evaporator coil that tells the board when frost has been cleared and the heater can shut off. With Ed active, defrost cycles run on a backup timer instead of demand, which usually means too little defrost on hot-humid days and too much on cool dry ones. Frost then builds up on the coil over 1 to 4 weeks until airflow drops and the fresh-food side warms.
Most common causes.

Wire to the sensor broken or chafed.

Connector behind the evaporator panel corroded.

Control board defrost input failed (rare).

Do a 24-hour manual defrost first (unplug, both doors open, towels at the base).

After defrost, plug back in and watch. The unit will work for 1 to 4 weeks before Ed forces another defrost.

Schedule a sensor replacement. This code never repairs itself.

Do not let frost build up to the point that the evaporator fan starts hitting it (loud whirring).
