The moisture sensor or its wiring is reading a fault.
What F28 means.
F28 points to the moisture sensor circuit on dryers with automatic-dry cycles. Two metal bars in the drum sense how wet the clothes are by reading conductivity. F28 fires when the control reads the sensor circuit as open or shorted. A timed-dry cycle still works, but automatic cycles cannot judge dryness. A fabric-softener film on the bars is a common and easy cause.

Unplug the dryer, find the two metal sensor strips inside the drum.

Wipe the strips clean with a little rubbing alcohol to remove film.

Restore power and run an automatic cycle to see if F28 clears.
