Frigidaire Freezer Error Code OP
Last updated:
Open thermistor. The temperature sensor is disconnected or has failed open.
What OP means.
OP on a Frigidaire upright freezer means the cabinet temperature sensor has gone open-circuit. The controller is reading infinite resistance instead of a real number, which happens when the thermistor fails internally or its wire breaks at a connector. On a standalone freezer this is the sensor the controller uses to cycle the compressor, so with OP active the freezer runs on a backup timer that usually over-cools the cabinet. OP can also briefly show if the door is genuinely open on side-hinged uprights with a sensitive door switch.
Most common causes.
-
Cabinet thermistor failed open (most common after 7 or more years).
-
Door not fully closed on uprights with a sensitive switch (check first).
-
Wire harness to the sensor damaged.
-
Connector at the back of the cabinet corroded.
Try this first: safe DIY troubleshooting.
-
Confirm the freezer door is fully closed and the gasket is sealing all the way around.
-
Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then restore power.
-
If OP returns within an hour with the door closed, the sensor or its wiring needs service.
-
Do not run the freezer long-term with OP active. Temperature is no longer being managed.

Ivan is the only repairman I would ever trust with our appliances! We have used him 3 times (for our dryer, our dishwasher, and most recently our oven). We called him when our oven unexpectedly stopped working and he got us scheduled right away and had it fixed immediately! He is prompt, incredibly knowledgable, very friendly, reasonably priced, and honest! Look no further if you have any appliance repair needs! Thank you again Ivan!! - Kate

Our ice maker in our GE Profile refrigerator stopped working. We contacted several vendors through Yelp and Esquire was quick to respond and were able to come out the next day. Our ice maker was back up and running right away! They were able to buy the proper part and install it all in one day. They were courteous and reasonably priced. I couldn't be more pleased with how it went.
