What SY EF means.
SY EF on a frost-free Frigidaire upright freezer stands for "System Evaporator Fault." The controller has detected a problem in the evaporator-fan circuit: the fan motor is dead, the wiring is damaged, or the control board fan-driver has failed. On a frost-free upright the evaporator fan moves cold air from the coil through the cabinet. When it stops, the coil keeps making cold air but the cabinet warms unevenly, and frost builds heavily around the coil.
