KitchenAid Refrigerator Error Code E9
Last updated:
Evaporator fan motor failure. The fresh-food side gets no airflow.
What E9 means.
E9 means the evaporator fan motor has stopped. The fan pushes cold air from the freezer (where the evaporator coil lives) into the fresh-food compartment through the damper. With the fan stopped, the freezer keeps cooling because the coil is right there, but the fresh-food side warms because no cold air reaches it. E9 is one of the codes that produces the classic "fridge warm, freezer cold" symptom.
Most common causes.
-
Evaporator fan motor failed (most common after 5 or more years).
-
Fan blade hitting frost or ice (frost-up).
-
Wire to fan motor broken.
-
Control board fan-driver circuit failed.
Try this first: safe DIY troubleshooting.
-
Open the freezer and listen. If there is no fan noise inside the freezer with the door closed, E9 is confirmed.
-
Look for frost behind the rear freezer panel. Frost can stop the fan even when the motor is healthy.
-
If the unit has been frosted up, do a 24-hour manual defrost first.
-
If the fan still does not run after defrost, the motor needs replacement.

Ivan is the only repairman I would ever trust with our appliances! We have used him 3 times (for our dryer, our dishwasher, and most recently our oven). We called him when our oven unexpectedly stopped working and he got us scheduled right away and had it fixed immediately! He is prompt, incredibly knowledgable, very friendly, reasonably priced, and honest! Look no further if you have any appliance repair needs! Thank you again Ivan!! - Kate

Our ice maker in our GE Profile refrigerator stopped working. We contacted several vendors through Yelp and Esquire was quick to respond and were able to come out the next day. Our ice maker was back up and running right away! They were able to buy the proper part and install it all in one day. They were courteous and reasonably priced. I couldn't be more pleased with how it went.
