Oven not heating evenly.
One side burns, the other side stays pale. Usually the bake element, the igniter, a stalled convection fan, or a drifted temperature sensor. Diagnosis in about 45 minutes.
Common causes for this symptom.

Bake element worn (electric).
The lower element has a hot spot or partial open. One side glows, the other stays cool. Cookies on the left burn while the right side is pale. Drop-in replacement.

Igniter weak (gas).
On a gas oven, the igniter has drifted below the current the safety valve needs to open. It glows but the burner won't light reliably, so the oven cycles hot and cold.

Convection fan motor failing.
On convection ovens, a slow or stuck fan stops circulating heat. Top rack browns first, bottom rack stays underdone. The fan motor or its bearings are the usual cause.

Temperature sensor drifted.
The thin probe at the back of the cavity is reading 25–40°F off. Oven thinks it has reached set temp before it actually has. Small part, fast swap, big change in baking.
