The control board has detected a fault in its own electronics.
What E01 means.
E01 points to the main control board, the part that runs every wash sequence and reads the sensors. The board has run a self-check and found a circuit it cannot trust, often a relay, a triac, or a memory error. The fault can also come from a power surge or a loose ribbon connector between the board and the user panel. Bosch groups several internal electronics faults under E01 through E04, so the exact cause depends on the model and the service literature for that platform.

Open the door and check that the inner door panel screws are snug, since a loose panel can flex the wiring.

Run a short cycle and watch whether the code returns.
